On 18th of Jan, finally we call could successfully complete the business simulation game. The feeling was fantastic. It was not about who won and who lost... It was about what we learned from 4 days of continous work on strategy, team building, JV/alliances & explorations. Based upon feedback from several groups it came out to be a nice experience. Business simulation activity also gave us chance to interact with all our classmates in one universe.
Overall a very positive experience of working closely and leaving some +ve impacts.
After wonderful experience of Business simulation....guess what??? 3 days of integration weekend with past MBA batch students. Most of the people are off for the integration weekend which will include ski and lot of other activities.
Good weekend to all!!
Cheers

ups and downs
I can say this day was like a roller coster.... It all started off on the wrong foot: bad sleep, woke up late. Journée de merde...
Off to start the day in the class and there I have a big disappointment looking at the results of Negosim for Period 1. A punch in the gut... Not as easy as it seems this little game. I can say this is difficult. Fortunately we have the best group.
josh is the world expert for negotiations with Malaysia: setting up plants and negotiating contracts for goods (even if sometimes we wishes we had not contracted!!)
stefano wants to understand what happened. His face turns a bit stern and he dives into the spreadsheets. After a while his smile comes back and we ready for another round at bad business
jeanine wants to keep our plants in Japan, but so far she has spoken for those poor japanese workers with too soft a voice to be heard by the us eagerly working their (non-existent) profitability and prospective markets. Women will make a better world !!!
I am wondering how can we work so hard at destroying our business and blaming ourselves for it after each session.
Anyway, it is a great experience. I think I will pay more attention in the future to accounting and strategy classes. I thought it was just common sense delivered in business suits for a s---tload of cash. What a waste. I think again now! Maybe I just had too many years in IT.
The iPod really saved the day. And I now realized that i have not opened it yet!!! Time to open the box and say a big THANK YOU to those Apple folks (I can' t remember why I thought a mp3 player would always be better then this gadget for slick New Yorkers who would never understood anything about technology ;-) A round of applause for the Dean and those in the faculty who pushed for that project. Now we will be listening to podcasts in class and we will watch movies in Negosim sessions! Better than burning share holders money...
Here are some pictures I took during the delivery session:
Simon so happy about it because he knows his commuting will be less boring every morning. Courage mon ami!!
hey Sabir, have you worked in showrooms before ? Who said bankers smile is always stern ?
Thibault is ecstatic about the paperwork !!

Business Simulation-Ist Day
After the interesting first few days in HEC, now Jan batch is geared to tackle the complex business situations thorough a simulation game. Simulation game called as "Negosim" helps each team to enter into business deals, negotiation, strategy development and finally the hardest part of the game is to take right decisions. It is interesting to see how our idea develops into concrete and solid stategic decision.
It is very interesting to see that each activity which we are involved is giving us an ample oppotunity to interact with other MBA participant and share our view points. We are also able to reflect our ideas and change the group dynamics. Business simulation game which will last for another 3 days has put all of us to think think and think......
At the end of the first quarter some of the teams are beaming with confidence and others are trying to understand what went wrong in the whole decision making process.
Another 5 rounds to go and the situation may look different than it looked at the beginning.
All the best to all the teams
Cheers

First few days in HEC
The check in procedure for the Jan 07 MBA class started on 4th Jan 07 with people checking in from all over the world.
The student affairs and the Expansiel building staff took good care of students . The check in process went off smoothly.
We had a chance to meet with other participants on 5th Jan. Thanks to the current student government body who organize welcome drinks for us. It gave an opportunity to know other participants. Meet students from Sept 07 batch and exchange views on several topics.
6th of Jan for the sake of students who came from outside France, the student body organized a trip to few shopping malls. Later on in the evening we had a chance to dine together at Italian restaurant. It was nice to meet once again other participants dicuss about our backgrounds. Our future directions and so on.....Some language exchange went on. Specially Korean, Chinese, Spanish, Bulgarian, Hindi, French...etc We could learn few words from each other.
We all landed up after the dinner in the Piano bar which has become a favorite place for most of us to hang on. Once again fun filled discussions...exchange of ideas. We all had chance to meet also exchange students from U.S , India...It was nice to see their perspective on various topics.
I am not sure what time other finished. I left Piano bar at 2 am . With a feeling that first 3 days have already started to give a lot of perspective as to how future is going to be. I am sure when classes will start we will have better understanding of each other and we will be able to work as good team, positively contributing towards the assignments and learning from each other.
Cheers and see you all soon

See you in September
Hi all,
Two news from Xue.
The first one is I might not join you in January for France Embassy does not issue my visa nor return my passport. So I cannot go anywhere but stay in Tokyo until I get my passport back.:( Considering the crucial fact, I hope school will agree to change my intake to Sep.2007.
The second one is I have booked a room in Holiday Inn (on capmus) for 2 nights(Jan 5-Jan 7). All the fee has been prepaid. Please let me know if you need it. And of course don`t worry about the expense. it`s my pleasurse to give it to any of you as a gift.
At last, hope to see you in September.
Best wishes,
Xue
